Gasification kinetic modelling of Victorian brown coal chars and validity for entrained flow gasification in CO2

CO 2 gasification reactivity of one Victorian brown coal char with different particle sizes, 106–8000 µm, was studied by Dai et al. using a TGA [22]. It was found that the decrease in particle size can improve the gasification rate.ABSTRACT CFD model of a 375 MW tangentially-fired furnace located in Australia’s Latrobe Valley has been developed. Gas temperatures required for ignition of brown-coal particles are only 600–800 K, the larger particles igniting at lower temperatures; ignition times are typically 5 ms for a 20 μm particle and 50 ms for a 100 μm particle, and are more affected by gas temperature than by oxygen concentration. The numerical modeling of the combustion of air-dried Victorian brown coal in O2/N2 and O2/CO2 mixtures with 21–30% O2 has been conducted via the use of computational fluid dynamics (CFD), ANSYS FLUENT 13.0, with the refined weighted-sum-of-gray-gases model (WSGGM), the single-film model with multiple surface reactions (i.e., char-O2, char-CO2, and char-H2O) for char particle, and the ...Computational Fluid Dynamics Modeling on the Air-Firing and Oxy-fuel ...Energy-size data of four groups of samples are shown in Table 2, Table 3, Table 4, ... particle size is model in exponential form into the classical breakage model. In the CFD approach, mathematical descriptions of each of these processes in the furnaces are called “sub-models” because they can be developed and updated in the same way that modules in circuit boards can be replaced (Niksa 1996).As shown in Fig. 1, a CFD code for modelling coal combustion probably needs the following sub-models: (1) model for particle phase motion, (2) evaporation ...The comparison of test 1# and 3# shows that the particle density is the same, and the particle size increases from 0.7 mm to 1.25 mm. For a typical Victorian-brown-coal-based Loy Yang Power station, calculated thermal history (time/temperature) of gas and fly ash has been reported by Brockway et al. [14]. The calculated thermal history indicate that the residence time of the burning coal particle in a flame region is ∼1 s (corresponding to a peak flame temperature of 1270°C).This can be explained in the following two ways: (1) increasing the percentage of small size and fine particles will fill in the gaps of the larger particles thereby increasing the contact area between the coal particles, resulting in stronger bond generation and hence an increase compressive strength; (2) small particle size obviously reduces ...Binderless briquetting technology for lignite briquettes: a reviewThe in-situ diagnosis of brown coal flame was conducted for a range of particle feeding rate, 21–31% oxygen in both N 2 and CO 2 diluents, comparison between Victorian brown coal and two high-rank coals, and the injection of external steam (26 vol%) to mimic the wet flue gas recycle in an oxy-firing furnace.
